Sant Jordi 2025: García Rodero Book Signing at SELTZ

To celebrate Sant Jordi, the Day of the Book, on April 23, Cristina García Rodero will be signing copies of España oculta at SELTZ by Ritter Ferrer, located at Balmes 54 in Barcelona. The signing coincides with her first solo exhibition in the city, on view at SELTZ through June 21, showcasing her powerful series Con la boca abierta.

An expanded classic: the 2024 reissue of España oculta

España oculta is a profound reminder of the importance of preserving collective memory and cultural diversity. García Rodero’s perspective turns this work into an essential reference for anyone seeking to understand the rich, plural identity of Spain. This carefully crafted edition continues to resonate emotionally decades after its original release in 1989.

With just over a hundred black-and-white photographs, España oculta presents a raw portrait of Spanish society captured through festivals and rituals—moments of collective exaltation where the everyday gives way to a more primal and sensorial self. Through this anthropological, photographic, and aesthetic investigation, García Rodero documents a society in transformation, while revealing the emotional depth of its traditions. The awaited 2024 reedition of España oculta by Elviria Publishing—revised and expanded by the artist herself—has reignited interest in this iconic work.
