Introducing SELTZ, Barcelona’s New Contemporary Art Gallery

This spring, Barcelona welcomes a new addition to its contemporary art scene: SELTZ by Ritter Ferrer, based in C/ de Balmes 54 (L’Eixample). A space devoted to contemporary art, SELTZ offers a rich and pluralistic vision that reflects the dynamic reality of today’s artistic creation—a mirror of the world itself.

With this philosophy at its core, SELTZ’s programming captures the pulse of the current art scene, fostering a vibrant environment where artistic languages intertwine and engage in dialogue.

Origin and philosophy: a bridge between the Mediterranean and the Alps

SELTZ is a cultural project born from the shared passion for art and collecting of three entrepreneurs of German, Swiss, and Spanish origins, who formed a lasting friendship in their youth in Barcelona. The name «Ritter Ferrer» combines two surnames from the founding partners’ family trees, symbolizing the confluence of Alpine and Mediterranean cultures, while also highlighting the gallery’s cosmopolitan spirit.

Artistic direction and management

SELTZ is directed by Lorena Pizarro Durán, a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in the contemporary art market. She is joined by José Luis Pérez Pont as artistic advisor—an art critic and curator, former director of the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) and the Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana, and currently the artistic director for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2031.

Opening: 24 April 2025

SELTZ will open its doors on April 24, 2025, with a landmark exhibition: the first solo show in Barcelona by celebrated photographer Cristina García Rodero (Puertollano, Ciudad Real, 1949), recipient of Spain’s National Photography Prize in 1996 and the first Spanish member of the prestigious Magnum agency. On view through June 21, the artist will present a broad selection from her series Con la boca abierta (With Mouths Agape).

A space for collectors and new audiences

SELTZ is conceived as an open, dynamic, and welcoming space—designed both for seasoned collectors and those taking their first steps into the captivating world of contemporary art. It is also, of course, open to artists themselves and anyone with an interest in contemporary creation.

SELTZ is a meeting point—a place for dialogue, discovery, and shared experience. With a vibrant schedule of activities open to all, this project aims to enrich Barcelona’s artistic landscape and bring contemporary art closer to new audiences.
