A soprano in action: the living image of “Con la boca abierta”

In the setting of the exhibition Con la boca abierta, where Cristina García Rodero’s images capture the full spectrum of human emotion—joy, tenderness, love, terror, surprise, pleasure, awe, desire, screaming, and revelation—through open mouths and intense expressions, early music takes on a new dimension.

A meeting of image, music, and emotion

Sin filtros is a musical journey into the heart of the Iberian Renaissance and Baroque, featuring pieces from the Cancionero de Elvas and the Cancionero Musical de Palacio, as well as tones by Juan Arañés Sallén. This musical program enters into dialogue with the expressive power of the exhibition, enveloping the audience in a profound, direct, and moving experience.

Performers

Èlia Casanova, soprano specialized in early music, internationally acclaimed for her interpretative sensitivity, and Belisana Ruíz, plucked string player and a leading figure in historical performance, playing the Baroque guitar and vihuela.

Program

On one hand, the Cancionero de Elvas and Cancionero Musical de Palacio immerse us in the refinement of the Renaissance, with courtly love songs performed on the vihuela, the quintessential instrument of the period. On the other, a selection of tones by Baroque composer Juan Arañés Sallén, who worked alongside the Spanish ambassador in Rome, offers a more popular, lively, and authentic perspective—where music becomes a cultural emblem and a bridge between worlds.
